For some reason when I say DO NOT give me any presents. My family takes it as...hey, lets get Virginia the most gifts! I'm not going to get into it because I do appreciate my gifts... But truthfully I received way too many thoughtful presents which I'll mention sooner or later! Today it felt more like one of those rainy day where you're trapped in the house with nothing but old games to play.

One of my gifts was... new hubcaps. I don't know much about hubcaps but these kind of clip on, you hit them in place with a mallet...or a hammer covered by a towel like we did.

Also when I visited Ashley, she gave me a plate to replace my dealer, it matched my bumper sticker. That wasn't all she gave me, later though...

Cough

It's is about 5:00 AM and I'm making snowball cookies because I'm going to visit my old boss and coworkers tomorrow.

My sleep routine is off so I'm going to stay up all night and all day to put it back to normal.

It's off because I've been sleeping a lot but yesterday, I woke up at 5:00 PM!!! Mostly because of THIS...Promethazine with Codeine.


I saw it had codeine and anything with codeine I'd like so I took it. I took it around midnight hoping it would make me drowsy; I didn't notice anything and then it was 3 AM...all of the sudden it was 5 PM!!! I think it worked!


I looked it up on wiki a while ago and noticed it's slang term when mixed with Sprite and jolly ranchers is "Purple drank"

Clearly the syrup is purple... places on a white box to compare colors...

Also my name sake sent our family the white box of See's candy for the Holidays.

I met Manda at Classic Bean and we talked for about 4 hours. I've had some good times at the Classic Bean. It's usually pretty cozy and enjoyable. We can sit on a couch talking in a dimly lit room without people bothering us, occasionally there's a live band, the drinks come in cute little mugs!!! I told Manda one time that I like the mugs so for my birthday she gave me the mug that somehow makes every drink taste better! Also at that time Jim from work-Yes, the "God Bless You" Jim, gave us carnations for Valentine's Day so I put them together.




Amanda is that person that did all those crazy things with me that I wouldn't have done if she wasn't there. We always reminisce... The most recent picture she let me take with her is at her wedding, February 2008

From there I met Misty at Lucky Dogs. I honestly forgot that Topeka sends you home smelling like an Ash tray.

I forgot to mention. My brother held a little party last week. SSBB, pizza, and soda. Michael seriously has one main thing on his mind...SSBB=Super Smash Brothers Brawl. I'm not a good player, usually I can put in 1 and 1/2 hours then I get irritated. Michael...is 24/7 he'll maybe settle for a good 4 or 6 hours but that wont satisfy him!!! Honestly, he's good for a reason. He was telling me about a Wii LAN adapter and how it still lags too much online... Anyway, he's still searching for more people to play with; I hope he finds more people soon!!!

Winter Break

So far in Topeka, I've mostly been reading. I've been home for 5 days and the only thing I've done was go to the movies/dinner with James. We saw The Day The Earth Stood Still. I love my cat. Also if you didn't notice my bag of cough drops, I am still sick... It's tolerable, just the same chunks only they are not so green anymore. James asked me "Did you just cough or sneeze" It's so gross that I don't have manners in public, I was coughing a chunk up...



I've missed my cat and she's been doing really well with my constant need to have her with me. The day I came home she snuggled into my cloths, so cute!

Backtracking. The day my classes finished my roomie and I met her friend Lauren in Lawrence on their Stop day. I'm not very familiar with Stop day but apparently they don't have school and it feels like everyone is out... We went to Jet Lag...and the second place I can't remember...I want to say the Ranch ???...all I remember is there was dancing. It was interesting not so much fun.



The Dental Hygiene party at Suz. It was impressive, I think 45 people showed up. Lately I've been running into walls... I said to my roomie, "my balance is WAY off. My ears are messed up. I am going to fall." She said "You wont fall" And you know what... I fell three times. My first was before we even walked into the house. This guy was holding the door open for us and down I went. He was nice about it he said "Don't worry, nobody saw" It was the kind of fall like you know you're falling so you give up and plop down on your knees and hands. I have bruises to prove.Pretty much everyone had Jello...!


This little boy. I tell Suz all the time I'm jealous. He is 1/2 white 1/2 Korean!!! I don't like kids but I don't think it'll surprise you if I said I like Asian babies!

Finally, Heartbreaking news...today I had a phone call and an e-mail informing me that SIX second year dental hygiene students are in the process of being kicked out of the program because of their grades. My roomie is included. We all know how their appealing will turn out :( I'm really hoping that the six of them stick together!

To end on a good thought. I do not like Christmas (yes my mom put the Christmas tree up all by herself), but what I do LOVE watching is my CAT knocking down the Christmas ornaments and trying to take on the tree!!!

Dental Materials

We received our bleaching trays back today! These are the pictures of my trays, done by my partner Amanda. I gave Amanda the ones I made of hers. We were only required to do maxillary trays. The blue is the block out we cured onto the models to leave room for the bleaching material. We marked everyone's shades and noted if we would be bleaching or not...I will NOT be bleaching. I feel like my mouth deserves a break.

This is Amanda taking an impression of me. Fun times! We needed to take impressions for our bleaching trays and our study models. We haven't received our study models yet, they aren't done being graded...


About a month ago, everyone in our class did sealants on three extracted teeth. These are mine. We picked 3 teeth out of a jar and mixed stone and paced them in it. Yesterday we did sealants on each other. We were in groups of three, 1 person was the clinician, 1 the assistant, and the other the evaluator. After we finished the assigned sealants, our professor checked them. Everyone switched so everyone got to do each part. Before we could even do the sealants on each other, we all had our teeth checked by dentists and had current x-rays taken. I was glad they enforced that.


It was pretty fun. The only issue I had was our group got done before everyone else and our professor wanted everyone to wait for everyone to finish before dismissing us; we ended up waiting 1 and 1/2 hours. I'm done with finals and tomorrow night there is going to be a dental hygiene party. Then off to Topeka for a month; I can't wait to see my baby Juneav.

8 of us went shopping. Clearly I am not a shopper but I was a trouper and tried not to drag them down to my level...

I'm taking my instruments home because I WILL practice on my Typodont over the break...I will...

Clinic

We had Clinic II orientations today.
Our tentative requirements are...

• 4 children (minimum age 4 years)

***light and heavy do not refer to the persons weight but how much calculus they have***

School starts back on January 14th for me and our first day seeing patients is January 27th (Tuesdays and Thursdays)! Again, this is only for clinic... We haven't gone over our classes yet. I'm on PM rotations.

Two finals over with two remaining -Although dental materials is a year long class so our final is considered as our sealant lab.

Gift

This weekend, I was awake for maybe FIVE hours!!! 1/2 I spent reading manga and random blogs till I passed out again. The other 1/2 I was cleaning, still coughing, and eating... I was serious when I said I was at my physical limit!!! What, 60 something hours in a weekend and I spent 5 awake!

So I forgot to mention that stopping a check took $28 from me and a trip to the bank to sign a form.

My new clinic partner Angelic (pronounced Ange-LEAK), brought me a gift today. She claims I helped her on her checkout but she would have done the same for me. Anyway... NO WAY would I turn down her gift!!! Home made Chex mix snacks!!!

Sweet bag. This one was coated in caramel!

Salty bag. She has some secrets, one of them is she doubles the spices to give each bite more flavor!

She said "I like to eat them when I'm studying. I know you're not into the festive bags so I found a bag that wouldn't remind you of it."

I was going to share these with my roomie but...I ate it all... I'm glad she didn't see me eat it too because WOH that'd be embarrassing. Once I got in my car I got into them and I decided to wait till I got home. As soon as I walked through the door I sat down and I'm not sure if I ate them one at a time...or what but then they were gone :(

Our apartment complex lost both our rent checks as well as our dog form. We're going to have to stop our checks and write new ones. What's interesting is that they aren't even apologizing OR paying for the check stop... Figures.

Meghan's dogs went home with her parents so we're taking them off the rent... Really they haven't been with us long but I'm ok with this. I'm a cat person. It was still cute how they were always happy to see you.

When you're sick don't forget to change your toothbrush/Brushhead, I...almost... forgot. Usually 2 day after an antibiotic :)

Forever

I'd like to just point out again that I will remain single forever and I know why. Remember when I hung out with Michael for a night... Yep, even though his ethnicity is Philippine (which ranks last on my Asian list...only because I don't like TAGALOG), he was still too cool for me. I know this because I was pretty smooth this night too (a rare thing) and no luck. He's a cosmo boy, not that that has anything to do with it (Check the October edition... http://www.cosmopolitan.com). At least in the pictures, he's leaning in and not away... Anyway being single is routine and easy. I am curious to know what a relationship is like though... but I know why I wont and I'm not going to change it :(

Finals next week, then I'll be in Topeka for the rest of December reading books for FUN, hanging out with my family, and seeing those three people! Oh catching up on Season 4 of HIMYM! LOOKING FOR PATIENTS!!!!

No hubcap yet.

I got in 4 hours of sleep last night; it felt great until I woke up. I know you guys are sad that I didn't put my white tonsil pics up... I would be sad too...

After my partner and I did three instrument checkoffs, they let me go home 3 hours early. Really, I shouldn't have gone in but we are really good with Asepsis. Imagine trying to suppress your cough for 3 min during a checkout...I had tears flowing.

Here's what I do/take before I go to bed for my throat...

1. Azithromycin-antibiotic
2. Mucinex-Decongestant
3. Saline Nasal Mist-Membrane reliever
4. 2 200mg Advil
5. Tussin DM-Cough suppressant
6. Mentholatum-Decongestant ointment

So I don't get sick often so this is a big thing for me because its new. I don't think I've been this sick since I was in middle school maybe...at least NINE years ago.

Missing Hubcap!!!

#2 It was taken???? Really...doubt it!

Until I lost it (today) I didn't even notice hubcaps and now all I see are hubcaps and everyone who has them all!

Thanksgiving break!
My first day back in Topeka, I met up with Misty and Jessica and we went to Tup Tim Thai's (my favorite restaurant because of their vegetable yellow curry), and then to Bullfrogs. I didn't really feel good but it was tolerable.

Then before I knew it, I felt bad. Friday I couldn't move, I was sweating, aching. I called my mom with my cell (she was upstairs and I was downstairs on the futon) and I was like... bring-me-a-thermometer. My temperature was 99.8 degrees which isn't that bad but to me it felt horrible!!! She then pulled my Advil out of my purse and a hour later I could sit up and continue reading my book.

I'm talking... coughing up Green and blowing out Yellow Flem (Phlegm), not sleeping during the night. I was like, it's cool, it's break, I'll sweat it out. Which comes to today. I woke about about 10 times last night sobbing/coughing because I couldn't breath with my nose clogged, my tonsils swollen, and huge chunks of green flem in my mouth blocking all airways. I was now coughing up DARK green flem!!! I got up and looked in my mouth to see that my tonsils were WHITE!!! Not Tonsil stones it's more like pus with chucks hanging down my posterior pharyngeal wall!!! At 3:00 in the morning I'm looking up BCBS providers near me. Finally It's about 6:30 I have about 5 picked out I get a hold of one and they are booked the other aren't open till 8:30 or 9 and I had a test this morning.


I went to the nurse practitioner at school (Amanda) and she prescribed me a z-pac (I got generic $10-thank you parents for giving me insurance) leaving me with the comment. "I'm considering you contagious for the next 24 hours." Do they say that to everyone they give zithromax to?

Sucks because tomorrow we are doing our final checkoffs for instruments in clinic...maybe they wont notice my white tonsils or the fact that I'm coughing every 30 seconds!!!

Next point. CHRISTMAS...I do not like that word (just letting you know). Not to mention I had to unprogram the radio stations that decided they wanted to play the same 5 Seasonal songs over and over and over again....!!!! I'm just pointing that out again...

At the beginning of the year our teacher decided that everyone was going to make an ornament staying within $5. We all drew names; I have Whitney. These are due tomorrow. So while I was picking up my Rxn I picked up some ornaments to make. Clearly they did not ask me because I would have had us get each other something more practical... COME ON, I could use some EXTRA cough drops right now!!! Yeah that's selfish thinking but really, what good are ornaments that most people only put up for one month?

I consider this ridiculous but I still ended up doing 3 real quick and tomorrow I'm going to decide if I like one, or just to give her all three... They aren't fuzzy they have glitter on them. They all say Whitney Dental Hygiene Dec 2008 on them. Clearly I'm not the most creative and she's probably just going to throw them away... So here are the 3.
